ESCONDIDO, CA. (May 29, 2008) – enXco, an EDF Renouvelables Company, and Southern Minnesota Municipal Power Agency (SMMPA) have entered into a Power Purchase Agreement to develop and build the 100.5 megawatt Wapsipinicon Wind Project. enXco will own and operate the Wind Project while SMMPA will purchase the project’s output over a 20-year period.
The 67 turbine project will use 1.5 MW GE turbines and is expected to be operational by the end of 2008. Located in Mower County, the wind farm follows the successful development of the 100.5 Grand Meadow Wind Farm.
Steve Peluso, enXco’s Midwest Regional Development Director stated “enXco is excited to help SMMPA bring the economic and environmental benefits of this wind project to it’s municipal members. We have been an active developer in Southwestern Minnesota for a long time, and in 2002 we started developing the Wapsipinicon project as we envisioned transmission availability and good wind resources would provide development opportunities in the Southeastern part of the State. This is actually the second phase of the project, with construction on the first 100.5 MW starting soon for Xcel Energy.”
