SAN DIEGO, (August 24, 2011): enXco, an EDF Renouvelables Company, has announced a Power Purchase Agreement with Marin Clean Energy for 31 megawatts of solar photovoltaic energy. The project will be located on six potential sites in Kern, Kings and/or Tulare Counties including a 1 MW solar carport facility to be built in Marin County.
enXco will develop, own and operate the solar project with Marin Clean Energy purchasing the power generated under a 25-year contract with buyout opportunities at years 10, 15, and 20 of the contract term. Start of construction is anticipated in the Fall of 2013 with commercial operations expected by March 31, 2014. The combined sites will generate 60,000 annual megawatt-hours of energy production, about 7.5% of Marin Clean Energy’s annual energy requirements at full roll out.
“We are pleased to partner with Marin Energy Authority in support of their renewable energy growth plan,” said Javier De La Garza, solar development manager for enXco. “Large solar PV projects play an increasingly important role towards the goal of generating carbon-free energy to meet California’s demand. Renewable energy in general and solar energy in specific are critical to achieving energy independence while at the same time mitigating climate change.”
“Our contract with enXco is another step forward for Marin Energy Authority to increase the development of renewable energy closer to home. These new solar projects will boost the California economy while creating new clean energy supply for our customers. We’re looking forward to adding even more local and regional renewable energy projects for Marin Clean Energy,” said Damon Connolly, Marin Energy Authority Chairman and San Rafael Council Member.
