LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Dec. 12, 2023) – EDF Renewables North America has announced a $50,000 contribution towards an endowment in partnership with Doña Ana Community College (DACC) and the New Mexico State University Foundation. The endowment aims to provide scholarships for students in the Advanced Technologies division at DACC pursuing either a Certificate of Completion or Associate in Applied Science, with a focus on Building Construction Technology or Electrical Programs.
The establishment of this endowment reflects EDF Renewables’ commitment to the long-term success of DACC, particularly as the college celebrates its 50th anniversary. In addition, DACC has pledged a 100% match to each scholarship.
“Partnering with Doña Ana Community College allows us to give back to the community and support the state’s economic growth,” said Henry Smith, Community Engagement Manager at EDF Renewables. “EDF Renewables is proud to support local communities through partnerships like this to help students prepare to enter the workforce, and contribute to the success of New Mexico’s transition and development of a strong renewable energy industry.”
“We here at DACC remain committed to providing equal opportunity to all students who want to further their education and careers in the workforce,” said Dr. Mónica Torres, chancellor of NMSU system of community colleges. “This new endowment will provide an opportunity to cover the cost for DACC students who qualify and are seeking a career in Advanced Technologies, which is a growing industry in our area.”
EDF Renewables has been actively involved in New Mexico since 2011, primarily as a wind operations and maintenance provider. The company has successfully developed and implemented 549 megawatts (MW) of operational wind projects in the state. Additionally, EDF Renewables has an impressive pipeline of projects totaling 1,600 MW.
Currently under construction in Doña Anna County, the Milagro Solar+Storage project represents a significant milestone for EDF Renewables and further demonstrates their dedication to advancing renewable energy technologies. By combining solar power generation with energy storage capabilities, the Milagro Solar+Storage project will contribute to the state’s renewable energy goals while also ensuring a reliable and sustainable energy supply.
