SAN DIEGO, (Dec. 17, 2013) : EDF Renewables announces the close of the Membership Interest Purchase and Sale Agreement (MIPSA) and start of construction for the Lancaster Solar Project. EDF Renewables and Urban Green Technologies LLC (UGT), a utility-scale solar developer signed the MIPSA in October 2013.
The 5.86 MWp ground-mount fixed tilt solar photovoltaic project is located on approximately 26 acres of privately owned land at the former Shirley Airport, 50 miles northwest of Boston, Massachusetts. The power generated will be delivered to the Town of Billerica, Massachusetts under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement, pursuant to the State’s Virtual Net Metering Credits Program. EDF Renewables will develop, own and operate the solar project with commercial operation expected in Spring, 2014.
“EDF Renewables is pleased to continue to deploy our solar development expertise in Massachusetts to help the Commonwealth achieve its ambitious goal of 1,600 MW of solar installations by 2020,” said Nader Jandaghi, Director of Commercial Solar for EDF Renewables. “The Lancaster solar project adds to the Company’s 300+MWp development portfolio of both distributed generation and utility-scale solar projects across North America and will deliver cost-competitive renewable energy and economic benefits to the host communities. We extend our gratitude to the town officials of Lancaster, Shirley and Billerica for their strong support for the project and we look forward to continue to work closely to deliver clean solar power at a time when communities are seeking cost-effective energy solutions that reduce greenhouse gases.”
EDF Renewables has also executed an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract with M+W U.S., Inc. Through an integrated approach, M+W US will contract with Gehrlicher Solar America Corp. (GSAC) to execute the implementation of the project.
