EDF Renewables, the mexican subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, announced the closing of an agreement to acquire two wind projects in Mexico totaling 324 megawatts from Eolia Renovables de Inversiones, a leading independent European wind and photovoltaic solar power producer.
These two wind projects under development are located in southern Mexico, in the highly windy state of Oaxaca, where EDF Renewables already operates the La Mata La Ventosa wind farm (67.5 MW). The first project, Eoliatec del Istmo, will have a total capacity of 164 MW, and the second, Eoliatec del Pacifico, will have a total capacity of 160 MW. The construction of these projects is expected to commence soon for commissioning in 2012-2013. Under commercial arrangements in accordance with Mexican legislation, the electricity produced will be used by a broad array of Mexican and international groups within long-term supply agreements. This operation strengthens EDF EN Group’s position in North America and accelerates its development in Mexico, a country with abundant wind resources and promising future for solar.
